Takoyaki, Enjoyable to Cook!

Takoyaki with topping

Takoyaki is a flour-based Japanese snack. It is Japanese snack in the shape of little round balls containing pieces of octopus. It is seasoned with sauce and mayonnaise and green dried seaweed powder. Takoyaki is often sold at street stalls.
Takoyaki is easy to make at home if you have a Takoyaki griddle and the ingredients.

Ingredient of Takoyaki (Four person serving)

  • Wheat flour: 200g
  • Egg: 3pc
  • Water 50ml
  • Small green onion(Choped finely): 2pc
  • Milk: 50ml
  • Soup stock powder:  2 teaspoons
  • Octopus: 200g
  • Tempura Scraps : 30g
  • Red pickled ginger: 20g
  • Salad oil: 1 tablespoon
  • worcester sauce: appropriately
  • green dried seaweed(Aonori): estimate amount
  • Dried bonitos : estimate amount
  • Mayonnaise : estimate amount

Cooking method of Takoyaki

  1. Cut octopus into 10mm x 10mm
  2. Put dough into a bowl  and mix enough until there is no dump.
  3. Heat the griddle. Make salad oil permeate on cooking paper and paste the oil over the griddle.
  4. Pour dough into the holes of griddle and put octopus,small green onion, Tempura scraps and red pickled ginger,
  5. Bake for 90 seconds and gather protruding dough and put them into holes then turn them over by bamboo spit one by one.
  6. Make them ball shaped while rolling them by spit.
  7. Dish them up on plates and sprinkle green dried seaweed,worcester sauce, dried bonitos and mayonnaise over them.

It is enjoyable and challenging to cook Takoyaki because it should be completely round and you should have the proper timing to turn flour paste.
I remembered attending a Takoyaki house party together with my American branch co-worker when I went on a business trip to the US.

The taste of Takoyaki is universal and there are a lot of people who enjoy eating it as a snack.
