Let’s go to Kissaten in the Morning on weekend
kissaten (喫茶店), literally a “tea-drinking shop,” is a Japanese-style coffee shop that is also a coffee shop which exists more in local cities or the suburbs. (It may include chain coffee shops like Starbucks but we mention here is about the privately-run coffee shops.)
If you want to experience the unique atmosphere of a Japanese daily life, I recommend you to go there especially in the morning, earlier than 11:00AM.
You can have the “Morning set,” which includes coffee , toast, salad, and boiled egg, for the same price of a cup of coffee.
Nagoya, a local city of Aichi prefecture, has a unique Kissaten culture. Local residents often go to a Kissaten with their families and friends in the morning especially on holidays.
Kissaten is treated as a dining room for family, or the place for socializing with people. Some people who meet up with their friends often talk loudly, so it might be a little bit noisy sometimes.
There are a lot of newspapers, magazines and comic books for visitors, so some visitors are obsessed with reading them. It is quite interesting to watch people in Kissaten.
