Since the global port was opened in 1859, global trade, like exporting raw silk, had been prospering and growing in Yokohama, and a lot of foreign capital moved there. Therefore, it was affected by foreign culture and customs. There are still a number of old western-style buildings.

The district of Minatomirai, where the development project of the new town was carried out 30 years ago, has lots of high-rise buildings lining the street, and the futuristic landscape, especially at night. It is one of the attractions.

Kamakura

Kamakura used to be the location of the Samurai government and prospered as a de facto capital in 1185–1333, what we call the Kamakura period. Therefore, there are a lot of historic landmarks such as Buddha, old temples, and shrines, etc.

Due to its proximity to the beach with lots of trendy shops and restaurants and accessibility from Tokyo, it makes the city more amusing for a lot of people who would like to make day trips there at their convenience. It is a very popular tourist site.
