Good to be in “Tatami rooms” to relax

Tatami-mat

Tatami mat is traditional Japanese flooring made of woven straw.
They have been used since the Muromachi period(1333-1568).
Tatami mats are generally 0.9m x 1.8m in size. A typical Japanese house has at least one tatami room as a parlour which is used for visitors to stay at night.
Because tatami rooms were once so common, we express the area size by the number of Tatami mats.
In Japanese culture, we sit on the Tatami mat directory or on the Zabuton mat cushion. We sleep on the Tatami mat with the Futon mat spread out.
Recently the Japanese lifestyle is becoming more westernized, and the number of Tatami rooms is decreasing, but many Japanese still prefer Tatami rooms.
New Tatami mat is light green and has a peculiar odor. They become yellow gradually and odorless as time passes.
Many people, like me, feel comfortable with the odor of new Tatami mats because we feel that it relaxes us.
It is said that the odor of Tatami has a relaxing effect.  Tatami mat also has the effect of sound absorption.  Tatami mat also has the effect of sound absorption.
